Lake LBJ Habitat
Restoration Committee
The
Lake LBJ Habitat Restoration Committee was formed by concerned
citizens for the purpose of reestablishing native aquatic vegetation
into Lake LBJ. Lake LBJ sits on the Colorado River in Central
Texas between Inks Lake and Lake Marble Falls.

Efforts
to remove non-native aquatic vegetation many years ago left
Lake LBJ void of aquatic habitat. One of the main obsticals
faced
by replanting efforts was selecting the proper plants that
would grow and flourish. In addition, the lake is well developed
and
the abundance of septic systems combined with fertilizer runoff
have made the water quality favorable for algae growth. This
limits plant growth by reducing light penetration. Several
varieties of emergent vegetation like American Lotus and Water
Willow are
doing very well. Now that several plant varieties have been
found that will successfully grow, it is up to volunteers to
transplant
the vegetation to different areas of the lake. As a result
of the early success of the revegetation program, TPWD even
agreed
to a stocking of Florida strain bass which is the first such
stocking in many years. Much more work needs to be done. If
you or your organization would like to volunteer please contact

Jakubowsky at 830-598-2565 or email at bigbass@281.com .
