On May 13th 2004, the North Central Region of the Texas B.A.S.S. Federation held its 2nd quarterly meeting. Charles Harkless called the meeting to order at 7:03 pm. Representatives from the AFW, Bad Boys, Bass Club Of Ft. Worth, Heart Of Texas, Mansfield, Oilman’s and Tarrant Christian bass clubs were present. Tom Marshall read the minutes. Ginger brought up that even though Robert Brown may be the Tournament Director for next year, he still has to be elected to the position. Jim Holcomb then made a motion to accept the minutes, with corrections. Charles announced Chase Waley as our North Central Regional Champion. Charles then read the tentative list of boaters and non-boaters for our regional championship to be held Oct. 9th and 10th at Cedar Creek. The pairings will be drawn Fri. night before the tournament. Mark Jarvis asked what the rules were in case of a tie between boaters. Charles explained that in case of a tie, first we would consider total weight of fish caught during the regional tournaments, then number of fish caught and so on. There will be no off limits but anglers will have to be off the lake by 4:00 pm Friday Oct. 8th. We will use Country Side Inn as the headquarters and Sunny Glen will be the ramp. The 2005 Texas B.A.S.S. State Championship will be held at Richland Chambers. Representatives from Skeeter boats will be present to give demo rides and have certificates for discounts and other perks Skeeter will again raffle off another boat to be given away at the 2005 State Championship. Dan and Ginger Davenport found a tournament weigh-in trailer the State Federation bought to use. Skeeter will repaint the trailer and put logos on it for us. Charles brought up that the Directors will vote on a "Grass Roots" Top 12 Tournament consisting of the top 12 anglers from each region, in December. A boat will be given away at this tournament. Lake Belton was nominated because it’s of its central location. The top 12 Tournament will be voted on at the June Director’s meeting. Charles stated that he would like the top 12 anglers to be from our Regional Championship. Charles also thought that it might be a good idea to put our Region’s trolling motor for sale on E-Bay with the money going to our region. The trolling motor is a 65 lb. thrust, 24 volt, 42" shaft Minn-Kota. The approximate value is $700 with a suggested minimum bid of $450. The length of time for the auction will be from June 1st to July 4th. The auction will be available to our North Central Federation members only. NCR bidders must include their name, club and B.A.S.S. numbers. We will try to keep this as simple as possible for Robert Brown to keep track of. Charles brought up the Minn Kota and Lowrance discounts available to federation members. Contact Charles for more information. Dan Davenport made a motion to reimburse our regional team’s entry fee to the State Championship. The motion was seconded and passed. Next year the entry fee may be $600. Charles thanked everyone for helping make our region so good and for their help at the region tournaments. Check-in at our tournaments was discussed. The person in charge of check in will wear an orange vest and will be at one designated spot. It will be the angler’s responsibility to check-in before the cut off time. The rules will be adjusted to make this process better. Charles announced the dates when some clubs are holding their Casting Kids competition as well as their Little Buddies tournaments. Send your dates to Charles so they can be posted on our region website. Charles reviewed the upcoming tournament dates for the Central Division and the PVA. Mark Jarvis presented a conservation report. We need help in controlling the grass in our lakes not eliminating it. Introducing small numbers of grass carp in a lake periodically is acceptable but not dumping mass quantities in all at once. One way to help avoid transporting unwanted stuff to a lake is to occasionally disinfect your live wells and wash off your boats and trailers before you go to your next lake. The next scheduled meeting will be August 12, 7:00 pm at the Golden Corral in Hillsboro, TX. The meeting was adjourned at 8:52 pm.
