On August 18th 2005, the North Central Region of the Texas B.A.S.S. Federation held its 3rd quarterly meeting. Representatives from the ATX, Bass Club of Fort Worth, H.O.T. Bass Anglers, H.O.T. Bass Assassins, Mansfield and Tarrant Christian Bass Club were in attendance. The meeting was called to order at 7:01 and the minutes from the May 19th meeting were read. Jeff Roach made a motion to accept the minutes and it was seconded by Jerry Eller. Robert Brown then read the financial report. Jeff Roach made a motion to accept, Mark Pevey seconded the motion and was passed. Tarrant Christian Bass Club will hold a “Little Buddies” fishing tournament on August 27th, 2005. Jeff Roach said he expects up to 100 participants. Local sponsors have stepped up and donated money and enough prizes for everyone in attendance. This event will be held at Cedar Hill State Park. The scheduled hours are from daylight to noon and there will be (3) different age categories. Tarrant Christian Bass Club and other clubs have had discussions on forming a Junior Bassmaster’s Club and are looking for someone to head this effort. Gary Smith has stepped down as the Texas Youth Director and Trey Scott has assumed the role. One of the things Trey wants to do is install a points system for the youth tournaments. The first and second place finishing winners of the 2005 State Championship will advance to the Divisional tournament. Jimmy Lee and the Tarrant Christian Bass Club will participate with the Texas Parks and Wildlife to put shoreline natural and artificial vegetation in Lakes Benbrook and Joe Pool. Mark Pevey talked about what the ATX bass club has done for fish habitats at Choke Canyon and will use the same methods for Lake Travis. Mark Jarvis said the town of Rissel has obtained attorneys and have filed a complaint in Austin to try to stop the building of coal fired power plants on Lakes Trading House and Old Lake Creek. Roger McCabe, of Texas fish hatcheries, said his agency is going to heavily stock Possum Kingdom and because of that they will not restock lakes Whitney and Granbury as much. On Lake Whitney, they want to raise the minimum limits to 18” on smallmouth and 16” on largemouth bass. At the State Director’s meeting, Charles Harkless was elected to take over as the Texas B.A.S.S. Federation President. Hummingbird has replaced Lowrance as a major sponsor of the Texas B.A.S.S. Federation. Robert brought up that if anyone had ideas for a new State logo that new designs are now being accepted for consideration. The top twelve anglers from each region and the directors will compete in a tournament December 3rd – 4th 2005 at Lake Belton in The Top Twelve Shoot-out. A new Skeeter Boat will be the grand prize. Robert talked about the NCR positions that will be open for next year, such as Secretary, Tournament Director, Youth Director, etc. Contact Robert for more information. Robert would like everyone to review the tournament rules and come to the next meeting with possible changes like tournament fees, format, changes in the championship, etc. We might want to re-address the penalty for dead fish. Robert, while discussing the Championship, stated that the town of Commerce is providing a meeting room for Friday and Saturday and banquet dinner for the participants at no cost to the Region. The town of Commerce will also include a tour of the town for the spouses attending using local classic cars and will provide lunch after the tour. C.R. Craig, of the H.O.T. Bass Anglers, suggested that our clubs band together to form youth tournaments. This would make it easier for everyone and would ensure there would be adequate number of federation members to hold a successful tournament. Mark Pevey talked briefly about some of the tournaments that the ATX Bassmasters are holding. He referred everyone to the Federation website for more information Robert talked about various upcoming events, all posted on our website. The next NCR meeting will take longer because business that will need to taken care of, such as rule changes, tournament changes to include format and lake selection. There will also be officer nominations and elections. With all business taken care of, Jerry Eller made a motion to adjourn and Jeff Roach seconded the motion. The 4th quarterly meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, November 16th 2005 at 7:00 pm, again at the Days Inn in Hillsboro, TX.
