North Central Texas Regional Meeting
Minutes
August 7, 2002
On Thursday August 10th the N.C.R. held it's 3rd meeting of the year at The Golden Corral restaurant in Hillsboro, TX. In attendance were representatives from the AFW Fishing Team, Bad Boys Bass Club, Heart of Texas Bass Assassins, Mansfield Bassmasters, Tarrant Christian Bassmasters and Team Bass. The meeting was called to order at 7:10 p.m.
The minutes were read by Tom Marshall. David Rowe made a motion to accept the minutes and was seconded by Mark Jarvis.
Terry Millis has quit his responsibilities as coordinator of The Little Buddies Tournament Trail. Needing someone to take charge, Charles Harkless will assume the duties.
The Champion Bass Anglers accumulated $400 in cash and auction items, designated for the championship tournament.
The "Little Buddies" State Championship will be at Loafers Bend at Lake Whitney in Sept., but maybe Oct, would work better. This will be a one-day event.
The Tarrant Christian Bassmasters will sponsor a Little Buddies tournament on August 24th. The tournament will be held at Southport Marina on Richland Chambers. The tournament will be free to the kids because they feel $25 is too much and will count on donations to fund the tournament.
David Rowe spoke about how each club should collect and donate $200 towards the "Little Buddies" tournaments to try to salvage the intentions of these tournaments. David suggested giving the 1st place finisher a $100 savings bond, 2nd a $50 bond and 3rd and 4th place a $25 bond. Charles agreed this would be a good approach to a solution.
Since kids from the whole state will be participating, Mark Jarvis suggested we make Hillsboro the headquarters because of all the rooms available.
Robert Brown talked about holding a Casting Kids event in conjunction with the championship.
Charles commented that Lake Tyler is full and looking good for
our Regional Championship tournament.
Mark Jarvis will be a boater and Ray Moody will be able to fish
as a non-boater, in part because our "Angler of the
Year" Kenny Goodwin will not be available to fish. The
Championship will pay (6) places. First place will pay $1,000
plus some additional sponsor money.
Charles brought up the situation of what to do with the trolling motor designated for the "Angler of the Year". He let the membership decide this issue. David Rowe suggested selling raffle tickets. Dan Davenport said to take the raffle tickets back to our clubs and even non-participating Federation club members will buy tickets. We can also sell tickets at the Regional tournaments, to friends, etc. Tickets will sell for $1 ea. with no discount for (6) tickets. A motion was made by Tom Marshall and seconded by Dan Davenport to use this method of disposing of the trolling motor. Charles will take care of obtaining the tickets. All members present voted on this and the motion was passed. Reps. for ticket sales from the attending clubs are: Dan Davenport, Tom Marshall, Mark Jarvis, Robert Brown and Chris Tatum. Reps. are needed from the clubs not in attendance.
Charles noted that we have 1469.82 in our account.
It was clarified that if our Championship winner can't go to the Regional, the second place finisher will go instead, and so on.
The PVA Tournament this year is Oct. 4th -6th at Toledo Bend using Cypress Bend Park ramp at Many La. We will need 100 boats because David Walton said La. might not have a strong showing this year. Next year the PVA tournament will again be in the spring at Cedar Creek. You can check out the web site at PVA.org.
Charles passed out 2003 calendars so clubs can review possible dates for our regional tournaments. The format will be the same, 6 tourneys with 2 thrown-out and a draw championship. Charles is going to push for a common launch site and have a numbered start in flights.
The State Championship is at Lake Amistad, March 16th-21st with the Central Division at Hayes Kansas starting on May 31st.
We talked about how to have guys commit to the Regional Top Six team. Robert Brown suggested that the guys ante up the entry fee earlier then reimbursing them closer to the State Championship.
I called The Lakeview Inn, as suggested by Cris Tatum and made reservations for our regional team for the State Championship in March. Their phone number is 830.775.9521.
B.A.S.S. has three additional amateur spots available for the Top 150 that they are going to raffle off. The down side will be that you may have to travel to another part of the country to participate.
The next meeting was scheduled for Thursday, November 7th, same place.
The August meeting was adjourned at 8:40p.m.
Tom Marshall,
Secretary - North Central Region of B.A.S.S.
