     2011 Director's Message

Hello All:

First, I want to thank all of you that participated in the South Region Texas BASS Federation Nation (STXBFN) conference call on Wednesday, September 28, 2011. The call was very productive and generated good discussion regarding the future focus of the STXBFN and its tournament trail along with electing a new STXBFN Director.

The STXBFN bass clubs have elected George Barnes, Quality Bass Club as the new STXBFN Director. George will officially step into the STXBFN Director role on January 1, 2012 and serve a two year term (2012-2013), as specified by the Texas BASS Federation Nation (TBFN) Bylaws. Over the next few months, I will be working with George to facilitate the director transition. Please welcome George to his new role within the STXBFN. I have great confidence that George will do an outstanding job for the STXBFN and bring fresh, new ideas to the region. George Barnes may be contacted at gpbarnes@sbcglobal.net or (210) 213-9003.

From our discussion during the conference call, it has been decided to try something new this year with the organization of the STXBFN Tournament Trail. In the interest of increasing bass club participation within the STXBFN, we will encourage each of the six affiliated bass clubs (Brush Country Bassmasters/Coleto Creek Bassmasters, Canyon Bass Club of San Marcos, Hill Country Bassmasters, Quality Bass Club, SAPD Bass Club, and Wimberley Bass Club) within the STXBFN to host one STXBFN Tournament Trail event. The “host bass club” will assist the STXBFN Director in the execution of a STXBFN Tournament Trail event including registration, morning take-off, weigh-in site set up, tournament weigh-in and fish care, and weigh-in site take down. The “host bass club” will receive 20 participation points for hosting an event to help reach the 50 point requirement for State Tournament qualification and potential monetary compensation. We also want to encourage the “host bass club” to hold a normal bass club tournament in conjunction with STXBFN Tournament Trail event to expose its membership to the STXBFN. The STXBFN will not require members of “host bass clubs” holding a tournament in conjunction with the STXBFN Tournament Trail event to enter the STXBFN Tournament Trail event. Participation/entry into the STXBFN Tournament Trail event will not be mandatory but promoted.

So, how is this going to be implemented? Each of the six affiliated bass clubs is tasked with selecting a lake where their bass club is willing to host a 2012 STXBFN Tournament Trail event. In the discussion with your club regarding lake selection also talk about event date options to minimize conflict with other club activities. Bass club Presidents or bass club officers please email your bass club lake selection to stxbfn@hotmail.com by November 1, 2011. I will host a STXBFN conference call on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 to collaborate with the new STXBFN Director and all STXBFN bass club presidents to finalize the 2012 STXBFN Tournament Trail schedule.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if there are any questions that you or your bass club may have regarding lake selection or the STXBFN.

Regards,

Michael Tennant
